Ninja, the most popular and the most followed streamer on Twitch, has said goodbye to Twitch, announcing that the player is moving exclusively to the Microsoft owned streaming platform called Mixer. He is best known for streaming Fortnite, the name of the free to play game that has taken the globe by storm. Fortnite itself has over 250 million registered players and Ninja is known as one of the best players of the game. The reputation of him has gained him play sessions with celebrities such as Drake, generating a massive fanbase in the process.


During the year of 2018, Ninja became the first gamer to be featured on the cover of ESPN magazine, and in April, the player was named to the list of 100 influential people of Time magazine. At the peak of the popularity of Fortnite, Ninja was reportedly gaining as much as $500,000 a month from streaming and sponsorships.

Despite his success, Ninja has told a desire to expand his career beyond Fortnite. a newest report showed that competing streamers on Twitch were starting to surpass Ninja in watch time as the growth of Fortnite stagnates. With streamers relying mainly on viewer donations and subscriptions, a decline in traffic can be translated to an immediate decline in revenue.

Since the launch of it in January 2016, Mixer has struggled to find enough viewers to lure top streamers away from its competitors known as Twitch and Youtube. According to data from Steamlabs, the streaming platform owned by Microsoft had just 119 million hours watched during the second quarter of 2019, compared to 2.7 billion for Twitch, and 702 million for Youtube Gaming.

Despite the result, Misrosoft has shown that its willing to maintain its investment in streaming and the decision to sign Ninja to the exclusive partnership has already deliver increased visibility. The app of Mixer became the most downloaded free app in the App Store less than 24 hours after the announcement of Ninja that he was leaving Twitch. The Mixer account of Ninja welcomed roughly 300,000 followers by the time his first Mixer stream started on August 2 and he is already among the five most followed accounts on the platform.
