2FA is short for Two-factor Authentication. It means that instead of only using a username and password (Single Factor Authentication) for protecting an Epic account. Then, an extra step is added to make the process more secure. You have to remember that the additional layer makes it much harder for the hackers to get access to a Fortnite account and the some sensitive information it contains. Now, we are going to inform you how to enable 2FA (Two-factor Authentication)
HOW TO ENABLE 2FA IN FORTNITE
First of all, there is a chance that you will be receiving emails asking you to change the password to your epic games account. Usually, these emails will have links in them and the email will be asking you to click on the link to change the password. For this case, please you do not this. Even, an email is from Epic themselves it is never a good idea to click on a link which is asking you to change your Fortnite password. Now, time for you to enable 2FA in Fortnite. Just follow these steps below:
- Please go to Epicgames.com.
- Then, you are able to log into your Fortnite account.
- After that, you have to open account settings at the top right of the screen.
- Next, you have to select password and security.
- Please scroll all the way to the bottom and select enable Authentication App or enable Email Authentication.
For note: Epic Games offers two types of 2FA (Two-factor Authentication) either through the use of mobile or through an email address.
ENABLE AUTHENTICATION APP
This is the possession factor authentication. Once you click on “Enable Authentication App”, then you are going to presented with another screen that asking you to download the authenticator app. Apparently, there are some common authentication apps that you are able to used with Fortnite. Here, they are:
- Google Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
It is no problem which one you use as they all work the same way. Please download one onto a mobile device. Either scan the QR code shown in the epic games account or you are able to enter the entry key shown manually. This is going to tie your Fortnite account with that device. From now, if you log into your Fortnite account, you are going to prompted on your mobile device to enter a security code.
ENABLE EMAIL AUTHENTICATION
If you click on the Enable Email Authentication button, then a screen will pop up that will ask you to enter a security code. That security code should have already been emailed to the email account which associated with the Epic Games account. The security code in the email will have to be entered into the field on the pop up screen. After this has been completed, next you are going to be prompted to enter a security code every time you log into Fortnite. This code is going to be emailed to you.
