In both Fortnite: Battle Royale and Fortnite: Save the World, rarity is a classification of weapons, survivors, traps, and heroes depending on how powerful and rare they are in the game. For cosmetics, rarity represents their uniqueness and creativity put into them. It may also represent the series they are included in.
Rarity describes both the relative rarity of finding a particular item and it is an expression of its quality. You have to note that each level has a name and color associated with it:
- Common (Grey)
Cosmetics: It consists of the default set and the Victory Royale umbrellas.
- Uncommon (Green)
Cosmetics: They cost up to 800 V-Bucks in the Item Shop. The cost depending on the type.
- Rare (Blue)
It has up to four evolutions for the heroes and schematics. In upgrade benches, they cost 100 of each type of material from Uncommon to Rare. Cosmetics: They cost up to 1,200 V-Bucks in the Item Shop. The cost depending on the type.
- Epic (Purple)
Cosmetics: They cost up to 1,600 V-Bucks in the Item Shop. The cost depending on the type. For your information, this is also the highest rarity of emotes (excluding the built-in emote Levitate).
- Legendary (Orange)
Cosmetics: They cost up to 2,000 V-Bucks in the Item Shop. The cost depending on the type.
- Mythic (Gold)
This is the rarity of the various crossover weapons including Batman Grapnel Gun, the Infinity Gauntlet, and the Lightsaber. In regular gameplay, these include the extremely rare Mythic Goldfish added in C2-S1, the vaulted Infinity Blade, and the special weapons added in C2-S2.
- Transcendent (Dark Red)
Usually, this Transcendent rarity was used for the Mythic Lead Survivors during early Fortnite Stages. Since Mythic was not added until one year ago.
- Marvel Series (Red)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added in v8.50 to celebrate the release of movie: Avengers: Endgame that includes all Marvel-related cosmetics.
- Dark Series (Pink)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added in v10.30 that includes all dark versions of cosmetics or to simplify anything related to The Cube.
- DC (Dark Blue)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added in v10.31 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Batman that includes all DC-related cosmetics.
- Icon Series (Dark Cyan)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added in v10.20 that includes all celebrity-based cosmetics.
- Frozen Series (Light Blue)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added in v11.10 that includes The Frozen Legends Pack and the Polar Legends Pack (excluding Codename E.L.F. which is Rare).
- Lava Series (Red-Orange)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added in v11.10 that includes Molten Omen from The Darkfire Bundle and The Lava Legends Pack.
- Shadow Series (Dark Grey)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added on October 31, 2019 that includes the Shadow Ark from The Darkfire Bundle and The Shadows Rising Pack.
- Star Wars Series (Space)
Cosmetics: A special rarity added on November 15, 2019 for celebrating the release of the game: Star Wars that includes all Star Wars related the cosmetics.
